IF và Web of Science khác SJR như thế nào
Hệ số ảnh hưởng (Impact Factor, IF) do Clarivate công bố trong Journal Citation Reports cho các tạp chí Web of Science (SCIE, SSCI, A&HCI; ESCI không có IF). IF và hạng quartile của Web of Science tính từ dữ liệu khác với SJR nên một tạp chí có thể có hạng khác nhau giữa hai hệ thống. Nhiều Hội đồng tính điểm theo IF hoặc chỉ mục Web of Science.
When you look up journals you will meet many indicators. This article briefly explains each one in EduFind and its limits.
Quartiles Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4
SCImago (SJR) ranks the journals in a subject category into four groups by their SJR indicator: Q1 is the highest group (roughly the top quarter of journals), Q4 the lowest. A journal in several categories can have different quartiles in each. EduFind shows the journal's best quartile among the discipline's categories, and the per-category quartile in the details. SJR data is based on the Scopus database.
SJR indicator, Cites/Doc and H-index
- SJR: a prestige indicator that weights citations by the prestige of the citing source.
- Cites/Doc (2 years): average citations per paper over the last two years, close to the impact-factor idea but computed on Scopus.
- Journal H-index: a journal has an H-index of h if it has h papers each cited at least h times. It grows with a journal's age and size.
How IF and Web of Science differ from SJR
The Impact Factor (IF) is published by Clarivate in the Journal Citation Reports for Web of Science journals (SCIE, SSCI, A&HCI; ESCI has no IF). Web of Science's IF and quartiles are computed from different data than SJR, so a journal can have different quartiles in the two systems. Many Councils score by IF or by Web of Science index. Because SJR holds no IF, EduFind shows the lowest tier of the group with a note and a Web of Science lookup link.
How to read the Council's scores
- "0 - 1.5" means the maximum score for that type of paper; the exact score is decided by the Council.
- Scores can change with the publication year (for example "0 - 1.0 from 2019, 0 - 1.25 from 2022").
- Each discipline has its own rules: some score by SJR quartile, some by IF, some by a list of journals the Council names. The "Scoring rules" section at the bottom of each discipline page reproduces these rules.
Three cautions when using indicators
- A journal's quartile does not assess the quality of an individual paper.
- Quartiles change every year; use the quartile of the publication year if the rules require it.
- A high quartile does not guarantee a trustworthy publisher; read Checking trustworthy journals and publishers.
